Subaru Winter Experience Celebrates Subaru Motorsports USA’s 2019 Season

For Subaru Winter Experience participants, part of the fun of driving around the ice can be pretending you’re a real-world Subaru Motorsports USA driver. After all, our WRX STIs debuted in the team’s current livery last winter, and one of them even carried Patrik Sandell’s signature number 18 on the side! Subaru’s rally and rallycross heritage in the United States is second to none, making it the perfect vehicle to use on the ice—and this year’s results prove it.

Subaru Motorsports USA scored championships in both major series it competed in for the 2019 season. Subaru Winter Experience founder Patrik Sandell helped deliver Subaru its first rallycross championship this season, as Subaru Motorsports USA won the Americas Rallycross team title with four of six race victories on the season. Sandell himself helped complete a team sweep of the doubleheader at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, while teammates Chris Atkinson and Scott Speed also won races. Both Atkinson and Sandell also finished on the overall season podium in the driver’s championship, and Sandell added the team’s first-ever podium finish at the non-championship Nitro Rallycross event in Utah as well.

In the American Rally Association, it was a huge year for the team as well with David Higgins locking up his legendary 10th United States national rally championship alongside co-driver Craig Drew. Oliver Solberg and co-driver Aaron Johnston added three rally wins of their own in their first season with the team.

You can lean on that same level of expertise at Subaru Winter Experience, whether you’re experienced behind the wheel or learning to get comfortable on the ice for the first time. Each Subaru Winter Experience course gives drivers the opportunity to try out brand new Subaru WRX STIs, WRXs, and BRZs on Dollar Lake in picturesque Eagle River, Wisconsin. Each car is equipped with specially studded tires to handle driving on the ice, while Sandell and the world’s best instructors from DirtFish are on hand to guide participants every step of the way, no matter their skill level. Subaru Winter Experience made its debut in Winter 2018 and is preparing for its third consecutive year at Dollar Lake this winter, with each year bringing more drivers than the last.
